Poker strategy – ABC and multiplication table for beginner players

It is difficult for a beginner to learn the strategy of playing poker from textbooks. The reason for this lies in the characteristics that a successful grinder must have. This is luck, a quick mind, good psychology skills and observation.

Naturally, the last couple of qualities are important in the real game. Building a psychological portrait of an online opponent is much more difficult, and when playing on poker simulators, it is generally pointless. There, the enemy is a virtual dealer.

Steps

The first stage of strategic growth is the accumulation of gaming experience. Online slots are useful for developing quick thinking, the ability to instantly assess the odds of your own hand. Similar skills are taught by tournaments in the global network. But here it is necessary to evaluate your own prospects after each round: the flop, the turn, less often the river.

Another benefit of online tournaments is learning professional slang. It is difficult to grab onto books on poker strategy right away because of the large number of specific terms, where the only familiar word may be just bluff.

The final stage of becoming a beginner is the choice of direction:

  • Tournaments . This will immediately require additional “orientation” between the SnG and MTT. The first option – tournaments at one and tables, on the principle of sit and play (hence SnG – Seat-and-Go). The second area is multi-table competitions, which is less recommended for a beginner.
  • Cash games . Poker strategy directly depends on the size of the stack, measured in BB (big blinds).
  • The best choice for a beginner is ABC poker. In fact, this is the alphabet of building a strategy, as evidenced by the name of the version.

Starting hands charts

If ABC poker is the alphabet of the game, then knowing the strength of pocket pairs is the multiplication table. It must be studied in such a way as to be remembered forever, deftly repeating even when asleep. Poker charts are tables that reflect the strength of the hands in a particular situation.

They also determine the behavior of the player, depending on a number of factors:

  • position at the table – early, later;
  • opponents’ actions – the presence of a raise, a call.

Starting hands include 169 combinations. The player needs to choose the most interesting for him, finding charts for them or compiling tables on his own. The second approach is a painstaking task that is not always possible for a beginner.

How to behave at the abc poker table

The main task of a novice player is not to copy the professionals, but to take your own – to successfully play strong starting hands. A number of standard rules will help to do this :

  • Steal the blinds only in late position. It is recommended to proceed from the principle: the closer to the button, the better.
  • Raise the bet (raise) only with reliable starting cards. These are high Broadway tandems, suited pairs or AK.
  • With pocket options JJ, TT, Call is the best solution. You should only go to Raise when you are closer to the but-nou, or if your opponents are inert – all previous players checked.
  • Hands AT in any combination of ATo (offsuite – unsuited) and ATs (suite, no transfer is required) are better to raise from the button.
  • The last rule has one amendment. It is recommended to raise the bet on the AT pair only in the absence of an earlier raise. Otherwise, the cards are easier to pass.

Further behavior in AMC poker is determined primarily by the flop. But the basic strategy of playing strong hands straightforwardly doesn’t change. Consequently, you should go for the run after the flop with a solid pocket hand already, or just getting a boost.

Small detail
A concrete example is the KK starting cards. Even an 8-3-J flop can’t ruin such a hand. The player still has two pair, set, full house and four of a kind. However, the mathematical expectation of the last two options is sharply reduced.

Another example is the awkward starting hand AT. If for some unknown reason she did not pass preflop, then the JK-2 flop will sharply strengthen the player’s position.

After preflop, the straightforward strategy remains. It is governed by three rules:

  • keeping the selected line, being the aggressor preflop, it is recommended to answer with a continuation bet;
  • bet at least half the pot postflop;
  • avoid bluffing on the turn, river, and also in multi-way pots.

The best option postflop is value bet.

Don’t try to imitate professionals

The straightforwardness of the proposed poker strategy is often off-putting. It is important to understand that the system is designed for a beginner playing with opponents of a similar level. Attempting to imitate a professional rarely yields good results.

It is better to build a poker strategy at the initial stage using certain algorithms. Until the rivals are so strong, the straightforward scheme is quite effective for itself.
